A leading UK tier 1 contractor is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to be the new Managing Director for one of its core business units which undertakes essential long-term asset maintenance and asset management contracts for local authority clients.

The role will shape the next phase of expansion, strengthen competitive positioning and enhance operational performance across a diverse portfolio of long-term contracts with local authorities.
As the business delivers essential frontline services for local authorities across large geographical regions, the role requires strong partnership capability, political awareness and sophisticated stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide full strategic and operational leadership of a large, multi-regional maintenance services business with clear growth ambitions.
- Lead a substantial workforce across multiple regional contracts, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality service delivery.
- Hold full P&L accountability, driving margin improvement, disciplined cost control and sustainable growth.
- Develop and execute strategies for contract retention and major new business wins, including complex partnership arrangements and major bid pursuits.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships within local authority environments, engaging effectively with senior officers, elected members and key stakeholders.
- Lead and develop a high-performing senior team, embedding a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement across the organisation.
- Represent the business at industry events, positioning the company as a leader in infrastructure services.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in P&L leadership, ideally as a Managing Director or Senior Operations Director within a tier 1 contracting business.
- Strong track record of leading sizeable, multi-disciplinary workforces (500+ employees) across geographically dispersed operations.
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering business growth, improved profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Experience within local authority maintenance contracts, infrastructure maintenance, utilities repair and maintenance, streetworks, highways maintenance or other public-facing service sectors.
- Ability to lead large, complex teams and drive cultural transformation within a high-performance environment.
- High levels of political and stakeholder awareness, with the credibility to operate confidently in local government environments.
