Movers and Shakers from July

Wimbledon and the start of the Olympics.

It has also been a busy month for movers and shakers across Transport & Infrastructure. Check out all the major moves below…

Connect Plus

Have announced the appointment of Angus Murray as the new Chief Executive Officer. Murray joins from the US engineering company, Fluor Corporation, where he was Vice President Operations, Europe- Advanced Technologies & Life Sciences and previously in major highways projects for Fluor in the US. He succeeds Andy Dean, who is stepping down after 7 years as Chief Executive.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM)

Chief Operating Officer, Alex Cropper, has announced that he is leaving the company after 7 years. He will be succeeded by Chief Network Officer Danny Vaughan.

SPL Powerlines

Have appointed Ian Currie as Director - Transmission & Distribution to lead the contractor’s growth in the T&D market. Currie has most recently been Managing Director for Transmission & Distribution for Balfour Beatty.

Jacobs

Have appointed Alex Lane as Vice President and Head of Sector for Cities and Places in Europe. Lane moves internally, where he was most recently Vice President Operations P&PS Europe.

TRU

Have announced the appointment of Emma White as the new Head of Programme Controls and Programme Function (Head of PCPF). White will join from National Highways, where she is currently Director for the Regional Investment Programme, overseeing the £8.5bn portfolio of major highways improvement Schemes across the North of England.

Jim Crawford is stepping down from his position of Programme Director, he will continue his involvement as a Strategic Advisor. Rob Carr has been appointed as Acting Programme Director. Carr is currently Head of PCPF.

Mace

Hannah Vickers, Chief of Staff for Mace, moves internally to become Global Head of Advisory. David Hendy, current Chief of Communications is set to become Chief of Staff.

Grant Thornton UK LLP

Charlie Hamilton joins as Partner. Hamilton joins from Deloitte, where he was Director within the Transport team. He will remain as Vice-Chair- Bus Partnership Board at Transport North East.

Department for Transport (DfT)

Have appointed Lord Peter Hendy as Travel Minister- Minister of State. Hendy has been Chair of Network Rail since 2015.

Currie & Brown

Kieran McManamon has been appointed as Regional Managing Director- England & Wales. He returns to the company after 11 years in various positions, most recently from Gleeds, where he was Director.

Effiage Genie Civil UK

Have announced the appointment of Santiago Daniel as Programme Director of EKFB JV- HS2- C23 Section. Daniele joins from HOCHTIEF, where he was Project Director- London Power Tunnels 2.

Kier

Jayne Hettle has announced her retirement from the company. Hettle had been with Kier since 2014, most recently as Managing Director of Design and Business Services.

Following this news, Jordan Flint has been appointed as Managing Director of Kier Design and Engineering and will now have overall responsibility for the Design business.

Lastly, Andrew Milligan will take direct responsibility for the Design and Business Services team.

Costain

Have announced the appointment of Paul Morris to its Executive Board as Group Commercial Director. Morris joined Costain in 2011 and has held several commercial leadership roles across the organisation, most recently as Commercial Services Director.

He has already been Interim Commercial Director since October 2023.

Core Highways

Jason Pavey has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer. Pavey joins from AtkinsRéalis, where he was Managing Director- Operations and Maintenance, UK & Europe.

Network Rail

Following the appointment of Lord Peter Hendy as Minister of State at the Department for Transport, Network Rail’s Senior Non-Executive Director, Mike Putnam, has been appointed as acting Chair.

Clive Berrington also moves internally to become Group Director, Railway Business Services. Berrington has most recently been Group Commercial & Procurement Director.

Pennon Group

Richard Price moves internally to become Managing Director – Wastewater Services. Price joined the business in 2022 as Group Chief Engineering Officer.

Scottish Rail Holdings (SRH)

Have announced the appointment of Hannah Ross as its new Chief Executive. Ross is currently Head of Major Projects and Commissioning at City of Edinburgh Council.

HS1 Ltd

Have appointed Virginie Merle as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer. Merle joins from Keolis where she has most recently been the UK, Middle East and India CFO.

Transport UK

Have announced the appointment of Paul Hennigan as Fleet and Facilities Director for London Bus. He joins from the Oxford Bus Company where he has been Operations Director.

United Living

Have appointed Michael Cobble as Director of Major Projects, Energy Transition in its Infrastructure Services division. Cobble joins from Fairfield Banks, where he was Engineering Lead.

Bentley Systems

Have announced the appointment of Nicholas Cumins as Chief Executive Officer. He succeeds Greg Bentley, who becomes Executive Chair. Cumins is the first Chief Executive in 40 years who is not a Bentley family member.

Aggregate Industries

Lee Sleight takes over as Chief Executive on 1st August 2024. He succeeds Dragan Maksimovic who has been appointed as Head of the West Europe region for parent company Holcim.

Winder Phillips

Joanna Davey has joined the Partnership. She leaves CrossCountry where she was most recently Industry Projects & Planning Director.

The Chartered Institution of Railway Operators (CIRO)

Have announced the appointment of Philip Sherratt as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective late October. He succeeds Annette Shipley, who has served as Acting CEO and will return to her role as Deputy CEO.
