Anglian Water has selected Ferrovial Construction/ MWH Treatment JV and VolkerStevin Infrastructure JV for its £1.5bn Major Projects Framework.
The five-year framework, extendable to 2036, will cover design, construction and commissioning of major water and wastewater schemes across AMP8 and beyond, including around £450m of Coastal Waters Improvement works.
Thames Water has awarded Costain £150m of wastewater treatment upgrade work across 15 sites in the Thames Valley.
Appointed under the Wastewater Asset Assurance Programme for AMP8, Costain will deliver inlet station upgrades, storm tank resilience improvements and repairs and modifications to treatment systems.
Thames Water has awarded Galliford Try a £47.5m contract to upgrade Camberley Sewage Treatment Works in Surrey. The project will improve treatment flows, resilience and environmental compliance, including additional storm storage, new pumping stations, generators and motor control centres, alongside extensive pipework.
Thames Water has awarded Kier an £8.7m early contractor involvement contract for the £265m upgrade of Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works in Hertfordshire. Kier will help finalise the design, manage delivery risks and prepare the AMP8 scheme for construction, which will increase treatment capacity, add storm storage and upgrade treatment and control systems while the site remains operational.
Yorkshire Water has appointed consultants to an £80m technical consultancy and design framework supporting its AMP8 investment programme. The framework comprises four lots:
Lot 1 – Technical services (£12.7m): AECOM, Arcadis, Binnies, Egis, Jeremy Benn Associates, Arup, Pell Frischmann, Pick Everard and Sweco.
Lot 2 – Technical assurance (£4m): Costain and TÜV Rheinland Industrial Services.
Lot 5 – Complex project design (£13.3m): AECOM, AtkinsRéalis, Jacobs, Mott MacDonald, Arup and WSP.
Lot 7 – Technical design partner (£50m): Arup, appointed as sole supplier.
The Environment Agency has appointed 13 suppliers to its £21.36m national groundwater modelling framework. The three-lot framework covers regional groundwater modelling, groundwater flood forecasting, and technical support and independent review services.
The successful firms are AtkinsRéalis, Geoff Parkin Hydro, GeoSmart Information, Groundwater Modelling Solutions, Groundwater Science, INTERA Geosciences, Jeremy Benn Associates Limited (JBA Consulting), Mott MacDonald, Stantec, Stephen Buss Environmental Consulting, UKRI – British Geological Survey, Worley Europe, and WSP.
United Utilities has awarded Costain a three-year extension to its Managed Service Provider contract, taking the partnership to its full 10-year term.
Costain will continue managing and delivering capital and responsive maintenance projects across water, wastewater and bioresource assets in North West England, supporting United Utilities’ £13.5bn AMP8 investment programme.
Oxfordshire County Council has awarded GRAHAM the final construction contract on its £332m HIF1 infrastructure programme around Didcot.
GRAHAM will deliver the 3.6km Didcot to Culham River Crossing, including new bridges over the River Thames and Appleford railway sidings. GRAHAM is also delivering the Clifton Hampden Bypass, while VolkerFitzpatrick, appointed in March 2026, is delivering the Didcot Science Bridge and associated A4130 dualling and road improvements.
Wiltshire Council has awarded WSP a £200m highways consultancy contract to support the planning, design and delivery of highways and transport infrastructure across the county.
The contract starts in December 2026 and runs for an initial six years, with options to extend to a maximum of 10 years.
Leeds City Council has appointed Balfour Beatty as sole contractor for a seven-year, £120m programme to maintain and upgrade the Leeds Inner Ring Road.
The work includes planned maintenance plus strengthening and refurbishment of four bridges and viaducts, three tunnels and a footbridge, with major structural works starting in 2027.
Birmingham City Council has awarded Kier Transportation a £120m extension to its interim highways services contract. The deal will see Kier continue highways maintenance and associated operational services across Birmingham until July 2028, with an option to extend to April 2029, while the council procures a long-term replacement for its highways PFI arrangement.
Devon County Council has appointed contractors to a £54m highways framework running from September 2026 to August 2030.
Taylor Woodrow Infrastructure joins Cormac Contracting, E & JW Glendinning, Kennford Tarmacadam and Tarmac Trading on the £48m resurfacing and reconstruction lot.
Quality Marking Services and WJ South West have been appointed to the £3m hand patching lot, while Colas, Connor Construction South West and Holcim UK have secured places on the £3m in-situ pavement recycling lot.

HS2 has renegotiated its existing civil engineering contracts with the EKFB and Align joint ventures as part of the wider HS2 programme reset. EKFB (Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall) will continue delivering its 80km section between Buckinghamshire and Warwickshire, while Align (Bouygues Travaux Publics, Sir Robert McAlpine and VolkerFitzpatrick) continues its 24km section, including the Chiltern Tunnel and Colne Valley Viaduct.
The revised agreements replace the original payment arrangements with HS2, and introduce new incentives for cost control and timely delivery.
Transport for London (TfL) has appointed AtkinsRéalis to six of seven lots on its Professional Services Framework 3 (PSF3). The three-year framework, with a one-year extension option, will support major investment and renewal programmes across London’s rail, bus and road networks, with AtkinsRéalis providing project and programme management, project controls, planning, commercial, risk and quantity surveying services.

Transport for London has appointed AECOM, supported by Arcadis, to deliver a feasibility study for depot and sidings works required for the Bakerloo Line Upgrade. The study will develop proposals for Stonebridge Park Depot, Queen’s Park and London Road sidings to support the introduction of new rolling stock replacing the line’s 1972 fleet.
Transport for London has renewed Mitie’s contract providing security, reception and associated services to its estate for a further five years, with an option to extend to 2032.
More than 480 Mitie staff will cover 58 London Underground sites, the Elizabeth line, river piers and the London Transport Museum, supported by crime intelligence and 24/7 security monitoring services.
Merseyrail has appointed 11 contractors to a construction framework covering station, substation and railway infrastructure works, initially for three years with options to extend to seven.
Lot 1 (£100,000 – £1.5m), reserved for SMEs, includes Frank Rogers Building Contractor, Simon Dean Electrical, SIS Projects, Vallum Projects and MPH Construction.
Lot 2 (£1.2m – £3m) includes MPH Construction, Pod-Trak, Morgan Sindall, Amalgamated Construction, Construction Marine and Spencer Rail Engineering.
Lot 3 (projects above £2.5m) includes Kier Transportation, Morgan Sindall, Amalgamated Construction, Construction Marine and Spencer Rail Engineering.
The framework covers construction, civils, M&E, demolition, electrical installations and station infrastructure.
National Rail has appointed Inspire (Structures), Ground Control and XEIAD to an eight-year civils examinations framework for its Wales & Western region, with an estimated spend of £113m.
Inspire has secured the £9.89m tunnels lot, while Ground Control and XEIAD have been appointed to the £103.4m lot covering bridges, culverts, retaining walls, underwater structures and coastal and estuary assets.
Metrolinx has awarded the Pape North Connect consortium a CAD 4.32bn (£2.3bn) contract for the Pape section of Toronto’s Ontario Line.
The consortium, comprising Webuild, FCC Canada, Arcadis and AECOM, will deliver 3km of twin tunnels, two underground stations at Pape and Cosburn, portal structures and associated works, including integration with the existing Line 2 metro network.
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has awarded the Skanska–Stacy Witbeck JV an additional contract for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project, taking the total project contract value, including preconstruction and early works, to $2.43bn.
The scheme includes 6.7 miles of light rail, 11 stations and a 26-acre rail and maintenance facility, with completion expected in 2031.
The Victorian Government in Australia has awarded Alstom a AUD $441m (£231m) contract for 25 additional X’Trapolis 2.0 electric trains, exercising an option under their original 2021 contract and taking the total fleet to 50 trains.
Amtrak has awarded Skanska the construction contract and LiRo-Hill the project management contract for the USD $242m (£129m) rehabilitation of Dock Bridge in New Jersey. The scheme will strengthen the bridge, renew track, signalling and overhead catenary systems, and convert the six-track movable structure over the Passaic River into a fixed-span bridge.
Australia’s High Speed Rail Authority has appointed Bechtel as Delivery Partner for the two-year development phase of the Newcastle–Sydney high-speed rail project. Bechtel will help progress the scheme to a construction-ready stage ahead of a final investment decision.
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has appointed AtkinsRéalis to provide engineering and supervision services supporting the operation and expansion of the Riyadh Metro. The network comprises six driverless lines totalling 176km and 85 stations.
Berlin-Brandenburg transport association VBB has awarded a consortium of S-Bahn Berlin, Siemens Mobility and Stadler a contract to operate Berlin’s North–South and Stadtbahn S-Bahn networks for 15 years.
The deal includes the supply of 350 four-car trains, entering service from 2032, and 30 years of maintenance, including workshop upgrades and a new facility at Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf.
Sound Transit has awarded Network Rail Consulting a $26m, three-year Asset Management Support Services contract for its Link light rail network in the US. Network Rail Consulting will help improve asset management and maintenance across track, signalling, traction power, light rail vehicles, telecommunications and station systems, supporting improved reliability as the network expands.
The government’s New Hospital Programme has confirmed contractor appointments for 11 hospitals across England under its £37bn Hospital 2.0 Alliance. GRAHAM, Willmott Dixon, Sacyr, Kier, Laing O’Rourke, Skanska, IHP, Morgan Sindall, Bovis and Dragados will work with NHS trusts to deliver the schemes using standardised designs, modern construction methods and centrally managed procurement.

Sisk has awarded Kane Group a multimillion-pound M&E package on the £42m redevelopment of Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
Kane will deliver the full M&E installation for a new 146-bedroom Radisson RED hotel and the redevelopment of an existing stadium stand, including design, engineering, commissioning and maintenance services.
The UK Government has awarded BAE Systems a £5.9bn contract to progress construction of the Royal Navy’s four Dreadnought-class nuclear deterrent submarines. The deal covers continued work on Dreadnought and Valiant, alongside fabrication and outfitting of Warspite and King George VI, which will replace the existing Vanguard-class fleet.
Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) has appointed the Laing O’Rourke–Amentum Australia JV as Capability Partner for the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard at Osborne, South Australia.
The JV will provide programme and construction management, nuclear licensing expertise and safety leadership for infrastructure supporting the construction of Australia’s future SSN-AUKUS submarines.
ScottishPower has awarded M Group a £110m contract to upgrade more than 70km of the 400kV Strathaven–Smeaton overhead line between South Lanarkshire and East Lothian.
The works will replace ageing infrastructure and install higher-capacity technology to strengthen the network and increase electricity transmission capacity between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
National Grid has appointed Laing O’Rourke and the Hochtief-Murphy JV to deliver major packages on its North West London Upgrade, which will increase transmission capacity between Bedfordshire and London.
Laing O’Rourke will deliver substation works at Letchmore Heath, Elstree and St John’s Wood, while HMJV will install cables and upgrade the Elstree–St John’s Wood transmission tunnel. Contract values were not disclosed.
Western LNG and the Nisga’a Nation have appointed Surerus Murphy JV as the first land construction contractor for the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline in British Columbia.
The JV will deliver terrestrial sections of the pipeline, which will transport natural gas from northeast British Columbia to the proposed Ksi Lisims LNG export facility on the northwest coast.
Carno 3 LLP, a joint venture between Amegni Renewables and Gresham House, has awarded Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK a £46.5m contract for the £100m Carno III Wind Farm in Powys.
Jones Bros will deliver turbine foundations, a substation, cabling and access works for the 10-turbine, 45MW scheme, including 20km of underground grid connection cable. Completion is scheduled for autumn 2027.
GBE-N has appointed Jacobs, supported by Quod as subconsultant, to provide planning and consenting services for its proposed UK small modular reactor programme.
Initial work will focus on the Gwyndod (formerly Wylfa Newydd) and Oldbury-on-Severn sites, covering planning applications, stakeholder engagement and socio-economic and transport assessments.
Manchester Airports Group has appointed Farrans to build new passenger walkways at London Stansted Airport as part of its terminal transformation programme. The skylinks will connect the terminal with existing satellite buildings, incorporating travelators and assisted-mobility facilities, and will enable the airport’s track transit system to be decommissioned.
Stantec and Currie & Brown have announced their appointment to the Government Commercial Agency’s (GCA) Construction Professional Services 2 Framework.
Stantec has secured places on Lot 1, covering general infrastructure and the built environment across the UK, and Lot 7, covering UK government assets overseas.
Currie & Brown secured places on Lot 1 and Lot 4 covering cost management.
The four-year framework will provide public-sector bodies with technical, design, engineering, environmental and project delivery services.

Scotland Excel, Scotland’s public-sector procurement body, has appointed 39 suppliers to a £160m engineering and technical consultancy framework.
Procured on behalf of Scotland’s 32 local authorities and other eligible public bodies, the nine-lot framework covers services including roads and structures, transport, drainage and flooding, geotechnical engineering, coastal and maritime works, master planning and project management.

Blackpool Borough Council has selected Hochtief Data Centre Partner UK as the preferred bidder for a £250m concession to develop the first phase of the Silicon Sands data centre campus at Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone.
The scheme will include data centre and office facilities, with waste heat connected to a proposed local heat network. The contract is expected to be signed in October following the standstill period.
